Why We Need Your Help
The North Texas Food Bank has determined that Delta County has a food insecurity rate of 20.3%.
Food insecurity is defined as lacking the resources needed for adequate nutrition. A study funded by Feeding America found that food insecure citizens are 60% more likely to experience depression, 53% more likely to report a heart attack, 52% more likely to develop asthma and 40% more likely to report congestive heart failure. In addition, the senior population is particularly vulnerable to the negative health and nutrition implications of food insecurity compared to other adult age groups.
42% of the population of Delta County is eligible for food assistance. The median age of Delta County residents is 43, while 28% of the population is age 60 and over.
Currently, clients can only come for food once every four weeks. With your help we can, some day, serve them more often.
